Wield Your Power Wisely

Turn on the news. Listen to a talk show. Open a newspaper. On virtually any issue, you can find a smorgasbord of viewpoints masquerading as the truth.

Take global warming, for example. One “expert” will claim without hesitation that the planet is overheating due to mankind’s excesses. Another “expert” will tell you, just as convincingly, that the Earth is merely going through its natural cycles of relative cold and warmth, as it has done for thousands of millennia.

Here are some other “truths” whose opposites might just as easily be true

  • Violent crime is on the increase

  • U.S. healthcare is among the worst in the Western world

  • Racism has not improved over the past 50 years

  • A woman has a 25% chance of being sexually assaulted in her lifetime

  • The planet is running out of energy

  • Humans are nothing but animals motivated by self-interest

The world we live in depends largely on how we see it and what beliefs we have chosen to let in or accept. In other words, we experience the world we BELIEVE we will experience! We are such powerful beings that we literally create, moment by moment, the very world we live in.

The vast majority of us were raised to believe the opposite

We were raised to believe:

  1. First the world is created

  2. Then you/we see it

  3. Then you/we base our beliefs on what we see

The truth that is beginning to dawn on much of humanity today is radically different

  1. You/we form our beliefs

  2. You/we create our reality based on our beliefs

  3. You/we see what we believe

From spiritual masters to quantum physicists, leading minds of our world today are beginning to realize and admit that so-called reality is an open and creative proposition. To a very large extent, we see what we expect or believe we will see, based on our learned beliefs. This even applies to subatomic entities in a lab. Is it a wave? Is it a particle? That depends on what you expect to see!

What we choose to focus our attention on gives us our created world

We can choose to see the best, or we can choose to see the worst. We can choose to have an elevated vision or a debased one. Focus your attention on the idea that human beings are wondrous and compassionate gods-in-embryo and that is precisely the world you will get. Focus on the idea that humans are animals motivated by self-interest and that is the world you will get.

A big problem in the world today is that our general standards of what we call "the truth” are very low

Our beliefs lie on the low end of the spectrum. This shows up in the world that we, as a global community, create:

  • A world of scarce and dwindling resources

  • A world where warfare seems a rational, inevitable solution

  • A world of global warming and pollution

  • A world of fierce economic competition

  • A world dominated by an angry, petty, punishing God

None of these “realities” are actually true in and of themselves.

As human beings and citizens of the world, we have two essential choices about how to deal with the world we inhabit

Option #1: We can choose to participate as a Creator; or

Option #2: We can “go along for the ride,” accept the majority viewpoint and complain as a Victim.

As the old Volkswagen commercial said, “On the road of life there are passengers and there are drivers.” Which will you choose (or have already chosen) to be?

Option #1 is an Adult option. If we accept the challenge of Option #1, we must raise our standards of what we choose as truth by going inside our hearts (not our heads) and connecting to our own personal truth. Then we must stand powerfully in what we know to be true from within us.

We can choose to focus our attention 100% in this moment on the world we choose to create. We can live NOW like the world has been created per our desires and it literally becomes so, not only for you but (bonus!) for the “passengers” as well.

Option #2 is the (helpless) Child option. Here we give our throne of power away and allow the visions and standards of others to dictate what we call “reality.” We become passive “receivers” of a world, rather than active creators of a world.

If we want an improved, evolved, more harmonious world, we must choose it NOW and live as if it ALREADY exists

Look for evidence of the world’s (at times hidden) goodness and you will find and create it!

We human beings possess astonishing creative powers, yet few of us have even scratched the surface of what we can do, mainly because we have not been taught or encouraged.

“How can we create a new reality, when so many of us have differing beliefs?” you might ask. “What do we do about all the opposing viewpoints? How do we fight them?”

We don’t.

It is not necessary to spend a single calorie of energy fighting and opposing other people’s points of view. All that is necessary is to stand powerfully in what we know to be true for US. The rest will take care of itself WITHOUT force or making others wrong.

If something truly comes from truth, then it is fed by love, not by any act of force. False ideas soon die of starvation if there is no fear or intolerance to feed them.

What is knowing?

Knowing is the adult version of belief. A belief is an idea we inherit, often from others such as parents, teachers, friends and “experts.” A belief is held in the mind. We spend a great deal of time defending and supporting our beliefs. Why? Because they’re shaky, insubstantial, and require effort to keep alive.

Knowing, on the other hand, never needs to be defended because it is “just so” in its quiet, granite support of us.

Do we need, for example, to fight for the idea that water feels wet to the touch? No - we simply know it. Do we need to punish and ridicule those who think water feels dry? No, because what they think is irrelevant to us. Our own reliable knowing trumps all opinions and beliefs. This gives us patience and understanding.

Knowing is held in a place deeper and surer than the mind. It is definitely worth pursuing because it will become your titanium backbone.

The goal of adult creative mastery is to cultivate a sense of knowing about the things that are really important to us, and then to quietly live in that knowing. This is how worlds in all their variety are born. This is how reality changes.

Know that nature is an ever-replenishing resource and it will be so. Know that every human being is a unique expression of love and it will be so. Know that love is the greatest force in the universe and it will be so. Not only for you, but for everyone!

This seems (despite its simplicity) to be the great paradox and mystery

We are everything and everything is us. What we create within becomes so in the “outer” world. The remarkable power we possess is the power to create reality.

How and for what are you using your power? Whatever it is, choose to be a Creator and not a Victim!
